Seven residents of Nizhny Novgorod were convicted for illegal banking operations amounting to 64.5 million rubles.

      On July 3, 2026, at 17:52, Incidents The Soviet District Court issued a verdict against seven members of an organized group found guilty of illegal banking activities. This was reported by the unified press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      It was established that from July 2019 to October 2023, the group conducted illegal banking operations. Money was transferred to the accounts of controlled legal entities, after which "shadow" transactions were carried out.

      According to the court, such a scheme contributed to the formation of an uncontrolled money supply and also allowed clients to hide income and reduce tax obligations. The total income from illegal activities exceeded 64.5 million rubles.

      Five defendants were convicted under part 2 of Article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for conducting banking operations without registration and a mandatory license, committed by an organized group and associated with the extraction of income on a particularly large scale. Two others were found guilty under part 2 of Article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for similar actions with the extraction of income on a large scale.

      All seven guilty parties were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 3 to 4.5 years conditionally with a similar probation period. In addition, each was fined from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles.

      It is noted that 2,744,000 rubles seized during searches at the defendants' residences were confiscated for the benefit of the state. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
