       According to the regional Ministry of Forestry, the population of lynxes in the Nizhny Novgorod forests has reached 625 individuals. Specialists emphasize that the predator continues to actively expand its territory in the region, and the peak population has not yet been reached. This is reported by IA "In the city N".

       Five years ago, in 2022, zoologists recorded 339 animals. A year later, their number increased to 402, and by the end of 2024, it is expected to be nearly five hundred (499). Last year, the number approached six hundred individuals (622), and now it has surpassed this mark. The rapid increase is attributed to the growth of the food base: hares and roe deer, which make up the diet of the wild cat, have proliferated in the region. The main habitat for the feline family remains the northern part of the region - the forested Zavolzhye. The absolute leader in population density is the Varnavinsky district, where 96 lynxes have settled. Significant groups have also formed in the Sokolsky (51) and Shakhunsky (45) districts. Following them are the Semyonovsky (44 individuals), Uren (32), and Voskresensky (31) districts.

      

      

       The geography of their habitat is clearly divided into zones. On the right bank, in the interfluve of the Oka and Volga rivers, the animal is extremely rare.
