A specialist from the state veterinary service rescued a weakened drake after the flood in Bor.

      On July 3, 2026, at 15:16, Society. The head of the local veterinary management's anti-epizootic team, Zhanna Pershina, has been caring for a drake found after the spring flood in Bor for over a month. This was reported by IA "NTA-Privolzhye."

      The bird was discovered by local residents: the drake was swimming near a fence in a flooded area, not reacting to people and not attempting to fly away. Upon examination, the specialist found no wounds or fractures and suggested severe stress. The bird was taken for rehabilitation and placed in a greenhouse.

      In the first few days, the drake hardly moved. Its bedding and water were changed daily, and it was given vitamins. Gradually, it began to move, and then confidently walk and run. Now the bird actively eats, bathes under a stream of water from a hose, and has become accustomed to its caretaker.

      According to the head of the team, the drake is about a year old. It has already gained strength, but it is not yet released into the wild due to weakened wings and the period of duckling hatching in water bodies.

      It is expected that in a couple of weeks, the bird will be transported to a private water body under supervision so that it can regain its strength and be able to fly away by autumn.

      The veterinary committee of the Nizhny Novgorod region reminded that help should only be given to truly injured birds. In such cases, they should be carefully placed in a box or basket, covered with a light cloth, and taken to a veterinary clinic or contact the district veterinary management.
