On July 2, 2026, at 17:45, Culture and Leisure. The Russian Museum of Photography has opened an exhibition by professional documentary photographer Alexey Myakyshev titled "Dialogues with Time" (12+). This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Documentary photographer Alexey Myakyshev is known for his long-term projects. The exhibition features works from four projects: "Vyatka," "Kolodozero," "Russian North," and "Pilgrims." Each of these projects has been dedicated over fifteen years, and until recently, the author considered only one of them—"Pilgrims"—to be completed. This project is dedicated to the Velikoretsky Cross Procession, which made a strong impression on him. However, this year "Pilgrims" has found new life and will soon be supplemented with new prints, including from color film, as Alexey Myakyshev is currently actively shooting in color.

"This is not Alexey Myakyshev's first solo exhibition, but it is unique in that it is the largest of all he has had. Analog photography, film, in my opinion, fully reflects his character—meditative, focused, meticulous—because just imagine the patience required to sit for hours in a dark room, working on each print to achieve the perfect result in an age of digital photography and easy image generation through artificial intelligence," noted the exhibition curator, director of the international photography festival "Light and Color," and chair of the Union of Photographic Artists of Moscow, Natalia Udartseva.

Alexey Myakyshev has been capturing life in all its manifestations and simple plots for forty years, and almost every one of his photographs carries some unspoken quality, intrigue, and tension. There is a special intonation and irony, as well as the dramatic mise-en-scènes, with telling details that refer the viewer to the works of great chroniclers—the masters of the Dutch Golden Age of painting, Jan Vermeer and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.

The simplicity of the plots and their documentary nature is emphasized by strict captions to the photographs. They only include the location and year of shooting. The author imposes nothing on the viewer. He simply shows life as it is.

The heroes of Alexey Myakyshev's photographs are enveloped in light and glow from within. This is an author's perspective woven from love and empathy for the people who find themselves in the frame.

"The mystique, the magic of photography greatly attracts me. It often happens that you shoot on instinct, and then you develop the film and are amazed: did I really take this? When I go out to shoot, I tune into it. At that moment, my mind is clear; nothing exists in the world for me except for me, my camera, and what I am shooting. It feels like a trance. A special state. I really love the Russian province. If you take my native Kirov region, there is so much interesting and yet unshot material that it’s just digging, digging, and digging. And Kolodozero consists of just a few small villages around the lake. But every time I go there, I perceive everything anew. It seems like a focused local story, but through it, you can show the whole world. Everything is there for that: the spiritual component, the special landscape, local people, color, a special atmosphere, the spirit of the place. Photography conveys this," says photographer Alexey Myakyshev.

The exhibition is open at the Russian Museum of Photography until August 16. It is accessible via the "Pushkin Card."

Let us remind you that the "Pushkin Card" program operates within the framework of the national project "Family," which started in Russia in 2025 at the initiative of President Vladimir Putin.
