A Nizhny Novgorod resident was sentenced to 9 years for financing Syrian terrorists.
June 25, 2026 13:38 Incidents The 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced 31-year-old Nizhny Novgorod resident Saidakhmed Shabanov for financing terrorism. This was reported by the court's press service.
According to the case materials, he shared the views of the banned organization in Russia "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" and decided to support it financially. From January to April 2025, the man transferred 18,900 rubles to a bank card specified by one of the organization's members.
In court, Shabanov fully admitted his guilt. He stated that he was interested in the organization's activities through the internet and Telegram channels, and began correspondence with one of its members in the summer of 2024.
The latter informed him that he was in Syria and participating in hostilities, and then asked for financial assistance. In personal messages, he specified that the money was needed both for himself and for the organization's needs — including for food, medicine, and weapons.
The court sentenced Shabanov to 9 years in prison. He will spend the first three years in jail, and the remaining term in a strict regime correctional colony.
The court also ordered the confiscation of 18,900 rubles for the benefit of the state. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
