The handiwork marvel

      Did you know that for the fourth year in a row, every penultimate Sunday of June is celebrated as the Day of Folk Arts and Crafts in Russia? This year it falls on the 21st. The Youth Library and Information Center is already hosting the exhibition-museum "Handmade Wonder," which can be described as artistic and applied. After all, books about folk crafts coexist with real works of art! Here is "The Art of Zhostovo" — a book placed directly under an iron tray, hand-painted by Zhostovo artisans. A white-and-blue porcelain rabbit is hiding near "Gzhel." The Gorodets and Khokhloma paintings occupy a special, honorable place, as popular art from our region, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. And "at the head of the table" is a wide Gorodets tray, which also serves as a decorative cutting board. Its roses and water lilies seem to descend and entwine around Anatoly Rogov's book for young readers "The Horse Strikes with Its Hoof" — about the whimsical patterns and customs of the art of our native Volga region. The books "Khokhloma," "Khokhloma Paintings," and "Golden Herbs of Russia" are popular among our guests — an aesthetic and patriotic delight for craftsmen, artists, and all admirers of Russian folk beauty.

      This exhibition table does not end here — on the other side, there are books about wood carving and wickerwork, pottery, and the making of ceramics and crafts. The exhibition is crowned by books on hot enamel, filigree, and the famous Balakhna lace. By the way, items in the style of Balakhna lace are located a few meters away — in the showcase of the applied exhibition by Elena Blokhina-Soshnevskaya, a member of the creative team "Origins." The edge of the table is "guarded" by a Dymkovo "goat" — a professionally painted clay figurine. And in woven baskets, you can see real yarn and knitting hooks. With a strong desire and in the presence of librarians, one can recall school labor lessons and occupy their hands with yarn chains and columns. However, the exhibits, despite their attractiveness, are not for sale or gifting — they are the personal property of library specialists. A small museum with books that we have organized for you in anticipation of national holidays.
