Nizhny Novgorod residents paid about 20 million rubles for electricity theft.

The statistics were provided by the press service of "TNS Energy NN." In 2025-2026, the company identified 549 cases of unaccounted electricity consumption totaling about 20 million rubles. In one instance, the volume of illegally consumed electricity amounted to 43,800 kWh. For comparison, this amount would be enough for a 2 kW electric kettle to operate continuously for about 2.5 years. Following the inspection, the Nizhny Novgorod resident was billed more than 344,000 rubles. The company reminds that tampering with metering devices and unauthorized connections to networks are serious violations of the law. Offenders face payment for the unaccounted electricity volume calculated over three months at a consumption standard with a multiplying factor of 10, restriction of electricity supply in case of debt, or administrative and criminal liability. Additionally, for unauthorized connections and tampering with meters, citizens face fines ranging from 15,000 to 30,000 rubles.
