The former ex-mayor Shtokman and his brother were kept in pre-trial detention until December 8.

June 17, 2026 16:45 Incidents Former Vice Mayor of Nizhny Novgorod Ilya Shtokman and his brother Mikhail will remain in pre-trial detention. This decision was made on June 17 by the Nizhny Novgorod District Court, as reported by the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" editorial office in the court's press service.

It was previously reported that the Shtokman brothers are planned to be transferred from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod, but this has not yet occurred. The hearing took place without their personal presence: both participated in the process via video conference. However, the session, scheduled for 13:30, only began two hours later due to technical issues.

According to the editorial office, the detention period has been extended by six months - until December 8, 2026. The consideration of the criminal case on the merits is expected to begin in July.

Recall that Ilya Shtokman was detained in September 2025 in Sochi. The investigation believes that the former official received a bribe of 55 million rubles from the head of a construction company. According to law enforcement, the money was intended for general protection, the conclusion of contracts with a sole contractor, and loyal oversight during the implementation of construction projects.

According to the investigation, the funds may have been deposited into the accounts of the company headed by the brother of the ex-vice mayor, Mikhail Shtokman - the CEO of the "Vector" plant. He was detained in December 2025. The man has been charged with mediating in bribery on a particularly large scale.

Investigators believe that the money transfers were made in parts through former city council deputy Karim Ibragimov. He later confessed and received witness status in the criminal case.

During the investigation, both brothers were transferred to Moscow. Additionally, there were reports of intentions to convert the profits of the family business and assets, which, according to the investigation, were acquired with funds from the bribe, into state revenue. The total value of this property is estimated at 328 million rubles. The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
