Almost 1000 infected ticks were detected in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On June 17, 2026, at 15:49, Society reported that since the beginning of the season, 3,753 people, including 1,029 children, have contacted medical organizations in the Nizhny Novgorod region regarding tick bites. This data is provided by the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor as of June 17, 2026.

      The highest number of inquiries was registered in the urban districts of Bor (240 cases) and Dzerzhinsk (235), as well as in the Pavlovsky (220) and Vetluzhsky (202) municipal districts. Among the districts of Nizhny Novgorod, the leaders are Prioksky (247 cases), Soviet (205), and Avtozavodsky (188).

      Nine cases of tick-borne borreliosis have been recorded. All the affected individuals are adults. Cases have been registered in Nizhny Novgorod, as well as in the Tonkin, Balakhna, Bogorodsky municipal districts, and Arzamas. According to the agency, infection in all cases occurred within the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod region, and diagnoses have been confirmed in the laboratory.

      Rospotrebnadzor noted that the number of people seeking medical assistance in 2026 was 1.1 times lower than the multi-year average.

      Residents of the region were most often bitten by ticks in their yards, accounting for 36% of cases. Another 35% of bites occurred in garden plots, 15.8% in forests, and 11% in parks and squares. Cases of tick bites outside the region have also been registered.

      Since the beginning of the year, specialists have laboratory-tested 5,520 ticks, including 4,909 removed from people. Positive results were found in 995 cases, which constitutes 18% of the total number of samples tested.

      Among the tested ticks, seven individuals infected with the tick-borne encephalitis virus were found (0.15%). Such findings were registered in Shakhunya, Bor, as well as in the Sharangsky and Uren municipal districts.

      In addition, 788 ticks infected with borrelia (14%), 23 ticks with ehrlichia (0.4%), and 173 ticks with anaplasma (3.1%) were identified.

      Emergency prevention with anti-tick immunoglobulin was administered to 514 people, of whom 500 were children.
