Psychiatrist Kondyurina explained how to avoid becoming dependent on gadgets.

      June 15, 2026 07:39 Society Smartphones and other digital devices have become an integral part of everyday life; however, excessive fascination with them can lead to serious problems. This was reminded by the chief freelance child psychiatrist of the Nizhny Novgorod Ministry of Health, head physician of the Consultative and Diagnostic Center for the Protection of Children's and Adolescents' Mental Health, Anna Kondyurina. According to the specialist, signs of developing an addiction may include anxiety without access to a phone, sleep disturbances, difficulties concentrating, irritability in the absence of the internet, and a constant desire to check social media. Children and teenagers are particularly vulnerable, as their brains continue to develop. To prevent addiction, the doctor recommends following a few simple rules:

      - limit the time spent on social media and entertainment apps;

      - establish daily screen-free periods;

      - avoid using gadgets at the table and before bedtime;

      - choose offline leisure activities more often: sports, walks, hobbies, and communication with loved ones;

      - parents should set clear rules for device usage and lead by example.

      If the obsession with gadgets begins to affect studies, work, or relationships with others, it is advisable to seek help from a specialist—a psychologist or family counselor. "Gadgets are powerful tools, but they should not control our lives," emphasized Anna Kondyurina. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
