Clothing production in the Nizhny Novgorod region has increased by almost 47%.

The total turnover of the industry amounts to 37 billion rubles. This data was released by Nizhny Novgorod Statistics on the Day of the Textile and Light Industry Worker, celebrated on June 14. As of January 1, 2026, there were 455 organizations in the region operating in the industry. Of these, 180 were engaged in textile production, 235 in clothing production, and another 40 specialized in leather production and products made from it. The light industry of the region includes textile, sewing, and knitwear production, the manufacture of leather goods, shoe production, as well as the production of bedding products. According to statistics, in 2025, the volume of shipped products from industry enterprises reached 29.2 billion rubles. The share of light industry in the manufacturing sector of the Nizhny Novgorod region was 1.3%. The largest volume of shipments was in textile production—13.1 billion rubles, which is 27.2% more than the previous year. At the same time, the output of products in physical terms decreased by 10%. Clothing manufacturing enterprises shipped products worth 12.2 billion rubles. Compared to 2024, this figure increased by 46.7%, and production volume grew by 6.7%. In leather and leather goods production, the shipment volume reached 3.9 billion rubles, which is 28.4% higher than the previous year's level. However, the output of products in physical terms decreased by 8.9%. Among the most common types of products in 2025 were non-woven materials and products made from them—138.2 million square meters, which is 9.4% more than the previous year. Enterprises also produced 8.5 million units of workwear, over 1.1 million knitted and crocheted products, 336.9 thousand leather products, and 1.65 million pairs of shoes. The industry employed more than 8 thousand people last year. The largest number of jobs was provided by clothing production, where nearly 4.5 thousand people worked. In that year, 192.4 million rubles were invested in the fixed capital of organizations not classified as small enterprises for the development of light industry. More than 63% of investments were directed to clothing production. Nizhny Novgorod Statistics also reported that over the past five years, a modern ready-made fabric production facility with a capacity of 10.2 million square meters per year was launched in the region. In the future, the creation of a textile cluster with enterprises for thread production and a plant for the production and deep processing of wool is planned.
