A Nizhny Novgorod resident lost 2.4 million rubles after ordering a car "from abroad."
On June 15, 2026, at 13:14, Incidents: A criminal case has been initiated in Semenov regarding fraud in the purchase of a car. The victim of the fraudsters was a local resident born in 1965, who lost nearly 2.4 million rubles.
As reported by the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, the man was looking for a car with delivery and found a suitable offer on one of the websites. Before concluding the deal, he researched information about the seller, reviewed feedback, and considered the offer reliable.
After that, the resident of Semenov contacted representatives of an agency that provides services for purchasing and delivering cars and transferred 2 million 395 thousand rubles as payment. According to the seller, the vehicle was supposed to arrive from abroad. However, after receiving the money, the agency representatives stopped communicating, and the car was never delivered to the buyer. Realizing he had fallen victim to a scam, the man contacted the police.
A criminal case has been initiated by the investigative department under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud committed on a particularly large scale."
Currently, police officers are conducting operational search activities to identify individuals involved in the crime, as well as the location of the stolen funds.
