Five hundred schoolchildren from all over the country are resting in Nizhny Novgorod's "Salyut" as part of the "Country of Heroes."

On June 12, 2026, at 22:13, Society In the Gorodetsky district, the second shift of the health and educational center "Salyut" was ceremoniously opened, with 500 schoolchildren from 23 regions of the country becoming its students. The center participates in the summer project of the Russian Military Historical Society "Country of Heroes," which unites a network of camps where 4,500 people rest annually. The program of the military-historical camp is implemented within the framework of the federal project "Family Values and Cultural Infrastructure" of the national project "Family" and aims to foster patriotism and respect for the history of one's country. Nizhny Novgorod region was among the four subjects of the Russian Federation that became venues for the all-Russian project in the summer of 2026. The Volgograd, Tomsk, and Orenburg regions also joined the project. "Gathering nearly 500 children from all over the country in one place with a common goal is what truly unites! This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the unity of the nation, which is especially important in the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. The most valuable thing for our kids is new friends, team spirit, and a sense of belonging to something significant," said the Minister of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Mikhail Puchkov. In the Nizhny Novgorod shift "Country of Heroes," there are students from military-patriotic and sports organizations, members of search teams, cadet and Cossack corps, and educational organizations with a military-sports focus. The camp also includes finalists and winners of Olympiads, various competitions, contests, and participants of military-patriotic festivals. Their achievements and merits were confirmed during the selection stage—in the portfolio competition and motivational essay. A free ticket to the camp is a measure of state support for kids actively participating in educational, patriotic, sports, volunteer, and media projects. "The military-patriotic shift 'Country of Heroes' unites kids from all over Russia around common values—love for the Motherland, respect for its history, and responsibility for the future of the country. It is especially symbolic that the opening of the shift begins with the solemn raising of the state flag of the Russian Federation—a symbol of unity, strength, and continuity of generations. I am confident that this shift will be a time of new knowledge, friendship, and personal achievements for each participant," noted the head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian Public Organization "Volunteers of Victory," Maria Samodelkina. The opening ceremony of the second shift was attended by the head of the municipal district of Gorodets, Alexander Mudrov, the head of the professional education and upbringing department of the Ministry of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Natalia Polyashova, as well as representatives of public organizations and patriotic movements in the region, participants of the program "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod region." "It is a great honor for me to participate in the opening of the shift 'Country of Heroes.' Here, kids from all over the country have gathered, who will build the future of Russia. Such projects help the younger generation better understand the history of their country, comprehend the significance of serving the Fatherland, responsibility, and mutual assistance. I am sure that the time spent in the camp will give participants new knowledge, true friends, and inspiration for good deeds for the benefit of their Motherland," noted the veteran of the Special Military Operation, participant of the program "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod region," Ravil Ravilov. In the camp, teenagers will be awaited by historical and educational events, classes in physical, drill, fire, tactical, and medical training, as well as military-search work. There will also be competitions in military-applied sports, team tactical and sports games. At the end of the shift, participants will receive diplomas and a commemorative badge of the thousands-strong brotherhood of the "Country of Heroes," united by common values, interest in the history of Russia, and a desire to develop. It is worth noting that since 2025, a national project "Family" has been in effect in Russia on the instruction of President Vladimir Putin, which fulfills the tasks of the previously existing national projects "Demography" and "Culture." It includes activities aimed at the comprehensive development of families: expanding support measures, creating conditions for the active longevity of the older generation, and ensuring quality and accessible medical care. The national project includes seven federal projects: "Family Support," "Family Values," "Culture for the Family," "Pushkin Card," "Older Generation," "Protection of Motherhood and Childhood," "Large Families."
