The former official from Nizhny Novgorod received a suspended sentence for the death of a child.

      On June 11, 2026, at 16:24, Incidents: The Avtozavodsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod issued a verdict against a former employee of the district administration in a case of negligence that led to the death of a six-year-old child. This was reported by the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court.

      The tragedy occurred on August 9 on Raevsky Street. A man was walking down the street with the child when part of the wall of an old abandoned building suddenly collapsed on them. The concrete structure fell directly on the boy. The child died on the spot from the injuries sustained.

      After the incident, a criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - "Negligence resulting in the accidental death of a person." Charges were brought against Svetlana Shakhova, who at that time held the position of head of the entrepreneurship and improvement department of the Avtozavodsky district administration.

      The court established that the woman improperly fulfilled her official duties in identifying unauthorized construction sites. For a long time, an unauthorized emergency structure that posed a danger to the public had not been detected.

      The court found Svetlana Shakhova guilty. She was sentenced to two years of conditional imprisonment with a probation period of one year.
