Nizhny Novgorod's "Torpedo" has announced the signing of a contract with defender Nikita Kamalov. The agreement with the 30-year-old hockey player is for two seasons.

Kamalov has spent 13 seasons in the KHL and has established himself as a versatile defender, capable of effectively playing both in defense and when joining attacks. Throughout his time in the league, he has repeatedly been noted for his spectacular body checks, and his scoring actions have brought important victories to his teams.

In the KHL, the defender has played for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, SKA from St. Petersburg, and other clubs. He has a total of 521 matches and 108 points to his name. The hockey player has also been called up to the youth and national teams of Russia, and as part of the student team, he became the winner of the 2019 Winter Universiade.

Last season, Kamalov played for Severstal Cherepovets. The defender scored 24 points and became the second-highest scorer on the team among defensemen. Additionally, he led the club in the number of blocked shots, body checks, and his own shots on the opponents' goal. Three of Kamalov's goals were game-winners for Severstal, which is the best indicator among the team's defenders.

Torpedo's general director, Evgeny Zabuga, noted that the newcomer has demonstrated effectiveness in various playing systems throughout his career and has proven himself to be a reliable two-way defender, capable of contributing not only in defense but also in attack. The club also expects him to bring his leadership qualities and character.

"We believe that in the Torpedo lineup, he will spend his best hockey years," concluded Zabuga.

It was previously revealed that former Torpedo player Maxim Letunov will continue his career at Moscow's Dynamo.

In a recent radio broadcast, Zabuga stated that almost 85% of the roster has already been formed. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
