Nizhny Novgorod doctors are restoring joints with the help of gel.

      June 8, 2026 09:44 Society Doctors from Nizhny Novgorod are scaling up a minimally invasive method for treating joint cartilage damage across the country. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of the medical publication "Statsionar-Press," Alexey Nikonov, on his Max channel.

      The method involves the use of hydrocolloid gel, which is used to replace damaged cartilage tissue in the knee, hip, or ankle joints. The preparation is injected directly into the joint: after injection, it solidifies, maintaining plasticity and mimicking natural cartilage.

      According to specialists, this approach helps reduce pain syndrome and restore mobility. Additionally, the technology allows for the postponement of the need for metal implants.

      As traumatologist Alexey Krupko noted, the method is particularly in demand among patients under 40 years old.

      "This is a real salvation for the suddenly 'younger' cartilage defects — the number of patients under 40 is increasing, and classical methods are no longer effective," he emphasized.

      The experience of Nizhny Novgorod doctors is already being adopted by colleagues from various regions of the country — from Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, the Far East, as well as specialists from the Ilizarov Center.
