A pensioner from Shakhunya transferred 220 thousand rubles "for treatment" to an online acquaintance.

      On June 7, 2026, at 16:19, Incidents: In Shakhunya, a 78-year-old local resident became a victim of fraud after communicating with a man on a dating site. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      As the applicant told the police, in October 2025, she met a man online. After some time, he reported that he had lost his phone and continued the correspondence from another number in a messenger.

      During their lengthy communication, a trusting relationship developed between them. In March 2026, the interlocutor said he was undergoing treatment at a medical facility and asked for financial help for medications and payment for medical services.

      Believing him, the pensioner began to transfer funds to the specified details. In total, the woman made 19 transfers amounting to 220,000 rubles. When the money was not returned, she suspected fraud and contacted the police.

      The investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Shakhunya has initiated a criminal case under part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud." The maximum penalty under this article provides for up to five years of imprisonment.

      Currently, police officers are conducting operational search activities aimed at identifying and detaining the suspect.
