Nizhny Novgorod Region and MGIMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia strengthen cooperation: a strategic agreement has been signed.

      Photo: Alexander Volozhanin On June 4, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF; 18+), an agreement on cooperation was signed between the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The document aims to develop the human resources potential of the region, support scientific research activities, and implement joint educational projects. The agreement was signed by the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, secretary of the regional branch of the United Russia party Gleb Nikitin, and the rector of MGIMO of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Torkunov.

      The cooperation will cover a number of strategic areas:

      - training personnel for government bodies and key sectors of the region's economy (industry, agriculture, social sphere, ecology, and others);

      - supporting scientific research and forming an innovative infrastructure;

      - developing international cooperation and foreign economic activity;

      - youth policy and career guidance;

      - identifying and supporting gifted children.

      Gleb Nikitin emphasized that the development of human capital is one of the key priorities of the region. According to the governor, the Nizhny Novgorod region needs a new generation of specialists with modern managerial, economic, and international competencies. The partnership with MGIMO will help prepare such professionals and increase the region's competitiveness.

      Dmitry Starostin, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, noted that the agreement elevates cooperation with the university to a fundamentally new level. It will allow for a systematic attraction of promising young talents from across the country to the region, utilize the expert support of the faculty of MGIMO in developing strategic documents and building foreign economic activities.

      Anatoly Torkunov reminded that Nizhny Novgorod schoolchildren enroll in MGIMO every year, and after graduation, they successfully realize themselves in public administration, international cooperation, business, science, and public activities. According to the rector, the new agreement will open additional opportunities for strengthening the scientific and educational potential of the region and provide new prospects for talented youth.

      As part of the partnership, the parties plan to:

      - conduct joint seminars, conferences, and intellectual competitions;

      - organize career guidance events for schoolchildren and youth;

      - promote advanced environmental protection practices and develop international cooperation in the field of ecology;

      - develop and implement educational programs (including distance learning) to improve the qualifications of civil servants in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      This long-term partnership is designed to create new opportunities for the residents of the region, strengthen its scientific and educational potential, and contribute to the sustainable development of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
