Nizhny Novgorod region is reaching a new level of padel development.
June 4, 2026 11:28 Economy The Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Russian Padel Federation signed a cooperation agreement at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 4. The document was signed by Deputy Governor Yegor Polyakov and General Director of the Russian Padel Federation Alexey Sorokin. The agreement provides for the unification of efforts to develop and promote padel in the region. This sport combines elements of tennis and squash. According to Yegor Polyakov, despite the relatively recent emergence of padel in Russia, it is already popular among the residents of the region. Specialized clubs are opening in Nizhny Novgorod, and tournaments are being held that gather participants of different ages and skill levels.
"As part of the agreement, we will reach a new level of development for this sport in the region—both in the mass and professional segments," emphasized the Deputy Governor.
The Russian Padel Federation, as part of its program to develop this sport, organizes ranking tournaments and events to promote it across the country. In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, these tasks are carried out by the accredited regional padel federation, which is engaged in implementing federal initiatives in the field of physical culture and sports. Alexey Sorokin noted that one of the key tasks of the organization is the systematic development of padel in the regions, including creating conditions for amateur and professional sports. He reminded that the Nizhny Novgorod Padel Federation was established in November 2025 and is already actively working. According to him, the parties plan to jointly prepare coaches and referees, as well as conduct events aimed at developing padel and promoting an active lifestyle among Nizhny Novgorod residents.
The Minister of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dmitry Kabailo, reported that interest in padel in the region continues to grow. If less than a year ago the first padel arena opened in the region, now there are already several such clubs.
"We have amateur competitions in this sport, including corporate tournaments. Some private clubs in Nizhny Novgorod provide free hours for classes to privileged categories of residents: people with disabilities, participants of the special military operation, and their family members," the minister said.
He also noted that the region is developing padel not only at the amateur level but also at the professional level. According to Dmitry Kabailo, a few weeks ago, the first padel center opened in the Nizhny Novgorod Region that meets the requirements for holding official all-Russian and international competitions. The XXIX St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is taking place from June 3 to June 6, 2026. Since 2006, the event has been held under the patronage and with the participation of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. Since 2025, the state program "Sport of Russia" has also been in effect in the country, aimed at developing mass sports and creating conditions for engaging in physical culture.
