Nizhny Novgorod region intends to reduce mortality from heart diseases by 2030.

June 4, 2026 13:15 Society A regional program "Fight Against Cardiovascular Diseases" has been approved in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The document has been published on the legal acts portal. According to the program, diseases of the circulatory system remain the leading cause of mortality in the region. In 2023, they accounted for 54.2% of all deaths. Data for 2024 and 2025 are not presented in the document. Ischemic heart disease accounts for the largest share of mortality structure at 55.5%, as well as cerebrovascular diseases at 20.3%. It is noted that the goal of the program is to increase the accessibility of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It is expected that by 2030, the number of patients with such diagnoses who lived the previous year without acute cardiovascular events will increase by 2.5 times. Mortality from circulatory system diseases is planned to be reduced to 450 cases per 100,000 population, from myocardial infarction to 39 cases, from acute cerebrovascular disorders to 82, from ischemic heart disease to 360, and from cerebrovascular diseases to 227. A reduction in hospital mortality is also planned: from myocardial infarction to 9%, from stroke to 14%. The program proposes to expand diagnosis and treatment. The proportion of patients with ischemic heart disease undergoing stress echocardiography is planned to increase to 60%, and the coverage of non-invasive diagnosis of myocardial ischemia and coronary atherosclerosis to 70%. Among other targets are increasing the coverage of reperfusion therapy for myocardial infarction to 80%, performing thrombectomy on 95% of patients with brain infarction, and thrombolytic therapy in at least 5% of such cases. It is planned that 98% of high-risk patients who have undergone heart surgery will be provided with free medications. The coverage of dispensary observation for individuals at high risk of complications should be at least 95%, and the provision of subsidized medications in outpatient settings should be 100%. In addition, the document provides for increasing the efficiency of using diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, developing regional vascular centers and primary vascular departments, improving emergency medical services, and expanding telemedicine technologies. Special attention is paid to patient routing: at least 95% of patients with acute coronary syndrome are planned to be transported by ambulance teams to regional vascular centers and specialized departments. At least 70% of cases seeking medical help for symptoms of acute conditions should occur within 30 minutes. It was previously reported that the fifth regional vascular center will start operating in Dzerzhinsk in 2027. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
