Nizhny Novgorod region has entered the top 5 regions in terms of the number of people who started retraining as part of the national project "Personnel".
On June 2, 2026, 16:22 Economy Nizhny Novgorod Region is among the leaders in the number of citizens who have started free retraining under the national project "Personnel". This was reported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation.
Training is conducted in a convenient blended format using modern distance technologies and is aimed at a wide range of citizens. The state support measure is provided to participants of the Special Military Operation (SMO) and their family members, mothers on maternity leave, youth under 35, the unemployed, pre-retirees, retirees, and people with disabilities.
"In the first five months of 2026, over 37,000 people have already started free retraining. The implementation of new technologies requires new skills, and for the second year in a row, we see that additional digital competencies, including working with artificial intelligence systems, remain among the most in-demand. There is also a steady demand for skilled trades, such as welders. These specialists are in high demand in industry, construction, machine engineering, energy, and other sectors, which explains the high interest in such retraining programs," said Anton Kotyakov, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation.
Nizhny Novgorod Region ranks in the Top 5 regions for the number of people who have started retraining alongside Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Republic of Tatarstan, and Samara Region.
"Training personnel for the economy is one of the most important priorities determining the development and competitiveness of the region. The retraining program under the national project 'Personnel' allows adults to consciously acquire skills for professions that are in demand in the modern world. Nizhny Novgorod residents are leaders in the country in the number of people who have started retraining. Currently, 1,388 residents of the region are studying. In total, over 4,700 applications have been submitted by Nizhny Novgorod residents in 5 months. This is five times more than in the same period last year," said Yegor Polyakov, Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
The number of those who have already started studying has increased from 34 people in 2025 to 1,388 in 2026—almost 40 times. A year ago, on June 1, there were no graduates, but now 193 residents have already received diplomas.
The education system has also significantly expanded. In 2025, retraining programs were conducted by 9 educational organizations in Nizhny Novgorod Region: 3 universities, 4 colleges, and 2 additional education centers. In 2026, their number increased to 24: 5 universities, 10 colleges, and 9 additional education organizations. As of now, the number of educational programs available to residents of the region on the "Work of Russia" portal has also increased from 57 to 123 compared to last year—by 2.2 times.

Among the most popular retraining directions are: '1C Programmer', 'Data Analysis Using Artificial Intelligence', 'Operator of Unmanned Aerial Systems', 'Manual Arc Welder with Non-Melting Electrode in Protective Gas'," noted Igor Pantyukhin, Minister of Demography and Human Capital Development of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
