Defender Anton Silaev has signed a rookie contract with the New Jersey.
Defender of Nizhny Novgorod's "Torpedo" Anton Silaev will continue his career in the NHL. The Russian hockey player has signed a rookie contract with the "New Jersey" club, as reported on the team's social media.
The agreement with the 20-year-old player is for three years.
Recall that the "Torpedo" graduate was selected by "New Jersey" in the first round of the 2024 NHL draft with the 10th overall pick.
In the recently concluded KHL regular season, the defender played 61 games, scoring one goal and making two assists. In 10 playoff games, he recorded two assists. In total, he has played 206 games in the KHL, with six goals and 24 assists.
Additionally, Silaev helped "Chaika" win the bronze medals in the MHL.
The three-party contract of the hockey player with "Torpedo" expired on May 31. The Nizhny Novgorod club made a qualifying offer to the defender, and the rights to the player in the KHL are automatically retained by "Torpedo" for the next two seasons.
The player's agent, Alexey Dementyev, previously noted that "New Jersey" has a large number of young promising hockey players and is in a rebuilding phase. According to him, in such a situation, it is important to be among the players who will form the future core of the team.
