The exhibition about Russian private opera opened in Nizhny Novgorod.

      A new exhibition titled "Legendary Tours - 1896. Shalyapin and the Russian Private Opera of Mamontov in Nizhny Novgorod" (12+) has opened at the concert Pakhauss. The project is organized by the A. A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum and the Russian Museum of Photography. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The exhibition is dedicated to the tours of the Russian Private Opera of Savva Mamontov, which took place during the XVI All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition. It was the first non-state opera troupe with a permanent cast. The invited soloist from the Mariinsky Theatre, Fyodor Shalyapin, participated in the tours. After Mamontov's performances, the demands for opera art significantly increased. During the Nizhny Novgorod season, the troupe gave more than 100 performances. The repertoire consisted mainly of national operas: works by Glinka, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Dargomyzhsky, and Tchaikovsky were fully performed in Nizhny Novgorod. Artists Polenov, Vasnetsov, Vrubel, Korovin, and Levitan worked on the productions. As noted by the Minister of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Natalia Sukhanova, the project was implemented for the 130th anniversary of the Nizhny Novgorod Exhibition with the participation of the Russian Museum of Photography and the Bakhrushin Theatre Museum. The exhibition includes more than 70 items — photographs, posters, costume and set sketches, and authentic theatrical items from the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries. The exhibits were provided by the State Historical, Artistic, and Literary Museum-Reserve "Abramtsevo," the Russian National Museum of Music, the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, the Russian State Historical Archive, the A. M. Gorky State Museum, the Nizhny Novgorod Museum-Reserve, the Nizhny Novgorod State Regional Universal Scientific Library named after V. I. Lenin, and the Literary Museum of E. N. Chirikov.

      The exhibition will run until September 20.
