Nizhny Novgorod residents were explained how the Northern MMC will operate.
On May 29, 2026, at 16:43 Society In early May, the unification of the district hospitals of the Uren, Vetluga, Tonkin, and Sharanga districts was completed in the Nizhny Novgorod region. A new legal entity has been created on their basis - the Northern Interdistrict Medical Center, which serves the residents of all four territories. Acting Director of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of Nizhny Novgorod "Northern MMC" Andrey Sazonov told the newspaper "Uren News" about the principles on which the institution will operate and the tasks it faces. According to him, the process of territorial planning started in the region even before the unification of the hospitals and covers not only municipalities but also the regional center. In Nizhny Novgorod, projects such as "City of Health," "Health Quarter," and "Family Quarter" are already being implemented, which involve the unification of large medical institutions. According to the leader, the main goal of the changes is to increase the accessibility of assistance in conditions of staff shortages, especially among narrow specialists. In the interdistrict center, full-fledged positions for doctors can be formed, who will hold consultations in all the hospitals included in it. This also simplifies management and reduces bureaucratic burdens. At the same time, a reduction in doctors is not planned. Among doctors, this is generally excluded because they are already in short supply. The provision of doctors in the Northern Interdistrict Medical Center is 17.5 per 10,000 population, and this figure is lower than the average for the Nizhny Novgorod region. Doctors work with a huge workload. The situation is better with medical staff with secondary education. As part of the unification, there will be an optimization of the administrative and managerial staff: centralization of accounting will occur, and possibly minor changes in the number of other personnel, Sazonov emphasized. The ambulance service is already operating through a single dispatch center in Nizhny Novgorod. If necessary, a team from a neighboring district can be called to the call. There are no plans to close the rural health posts, and in the event of a temporary absence of a staff member, a mobile point is used. In the future, the center intends to implement new methods of diagnosis and treatment, continue attracting personnel, and participate in the modernization program for primary healthcare from 2026 to 2030.
