Sports grounds have been opened in schools of the Sormovsky district as part of the "It's up to you!" project.

In Nizhny Novgorod, the first three facilities created as part of the "You Decide!" initiative budgeting project have been opened. New sports grounds have appeared at schools No. 79 and No. 85 in the Sormovsky district. The city's head, Yuri Shalabaev, inspected the facilities.

At school No. 79, a hockey rink with boards was opened. As the mayor noted, last year a multifunctional sports ground for football and volleyball already appeared on the premises of the institution.

"I just checked how it survived the winter: good rubber covering and fencing. And this year, since there was a big demand from students and residents of nearby houses, we made another ground, a hockey one, with boards. In the summer, it will also be used as multifunctional," said Yuri Shalabaev.

The director of school No. 79 named after N.A. Zaitsev, Tamara Kaslavskaya, reported that both grounds are popular among students. According to her, the new facility is planned to be used not only for school classes but also for district events.

A student of the school, Veronika Soldatova, said she plans to spend her free time on the ground with friends.

"I will play here with my friends and ride rollerblades in the spring, and in winter – on skates," said the schoolgirl.

At school No. 85, two grounds were opened – a multifunctional one and a volleyball one. The total area of the facilities exceeded 1,300 square meters. The territory has been updated with polyurethane covering and sports equipment has been replaced.

As noted by the school director, Tatyana Matskevich, the new grounds will be used during physical education classes, section work, and school competitions. Yuri Shalabaev added that the students of the school actively participate in the "Football – in School" project.

The city head also noted that contractors are handing over the facilities earlier than the deadlines stipulated in the contracts. According to him, the work at school No. 85 was supposed to be completed by July 1, but the grounds were opened in May.

Yuri Shalabaev reminded that in 2026, 78 projects are planned to be implemented in Nizhny Novgorod under the "You Decide!" program. The total cost of the work will exceed 341 million rubles.

The head of the Sormovsky district administration, Svetlana Gorbunova, clarified that this year, 10 facilities are planned to be implemented in the district as part of the project. In addition to sports grounds, the asphalt in kindergarten No. 393 is planned to be updated, children's playgrounds on Svetloyarskaya and Fedoseenko streets are to be improved, and the assembly halls in schools No. 9 and Lyceum No. 82, as well as the roads on Novye Polyanki and Furmanova streets, are to be repaired.
