A free running center will be established at the Rowing Canal in Nizhny Novgorod.

A free running center will open in Nizhny Novgorod by autumn 2026. It will be located on the embankment of the Rowing Canal near the "Goradrom" - one of the most popular places for jogging among the city's residents, announced the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, on his MAX channel.

The project is being implemented under the program of the All-Russian Athletics Federation with financial support from the autonomous non-profit organization "Eurasia." Such centers are planned to be opened in more than 20 regions of Russia. The initiative is part of the strategy for the development of athletics in the country until 2036.

The running center will be equipped with changing rooms, showers, storage lockers, a universal training and lecture hall, as well as a space for training with a coach. In addition, there will be designated areas for relaxation, dining, and recovery.

Next to the center, there will be running tracks with a special rubberized surface, a workout area, and a relaxation space.

According to the regional head, the center will operate year-round, and it will be free for all who wish to visit, including families with children.

"I am confident that the new running center will become a focal point for the entire running community in the region," said Nikitin, adding that sports events, joint training sessions, meetings with coaches, and master classes are planned to be held at the venue.

The governor also emphasized that the number of running enthusiasts in the Nizhny Novgorod region continues to grow, so the demand for specialized infrastructure remains high.

"I thank the chairman of the All-Russian Athletics Federation, Pyotr Fradkov, for the excellent initiative and for choosing Nizhny Novgorod as one of the 'pilot' cities where the project will start," concluded Gleb Nikitin.

Let us remind you that this upcoming weekend, the half-marathon "Run, Hero!" will take place in Nizhny Novgorod. This time, a new distance of 42.2 km will be introduced. Due to the sporting event, traffic will be closed on the Kanavinsky Bridge and parts of the central streets. Bus and electric bus routes will also be changed.
