More than 80 "smart" crossings will appear in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On May 19, 2026, at 11:53 AM, Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 111 pedestrian crossings are planned to be arranged on regional and local roads in 2026, reported the Main Department of Highways of the region. The work will be carried out as part of the program "Improving Road Safety" of the national project "Infrastructure for Life." A total of 96.9 million rubles will be allocated for these purposes. Of the total number of new facilities, 86 will be projection-based. This type of marking represents a light projection of a "zebra" or a pedestrian silhouette on the roadway. It is created using an LED module embedded in the support of a road sign. At night, the projection becomes clearly visible to drivers, including during rain, fog, and in unlit areas of the roads. Work has already begun on 13 sites. They are located in the Balakhna and Pavlovo districts, Dzerzhinsk, Arzamas, Bor, and in the Kstovo district of Nizhny Novgorod. As noted by Sergey Kazantsev, deputy director of the State Budgetary Institution of the Nizhny Novgorod Region "GUAD," the locations for the new crossings are determined after analyzing accident statistics, including the types of traffic accidents, the time they occur, and other factors. "Safety on the roads is our unconditional priority. Work is already underway in six districts, and other areas will be covered by the end of the year," he stated. The national project "Infrastructure for Life" has been in effect in Russia since 2025. It includes activities for the development of road construction, housing and communal services, public transport, and improving road safety.
