      On June 20-21, 2026, the XXII International Festival of Folk Arts and Crafts "Golden Khokhloma" will take place in the city of Semyonov, Nizhny Novgorod Region. The event will once again become a key venue for celebrating the Day of Folk Arts and Crafts in the country. As reported by the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the "Golden Khokhloma" festival will be held as part of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality." The main theme of this year's event is "110 Years in the Hands of Masters," dedicated to the anniversary of the opening of the school of artistic wood processing in Semyonov, which laid the foundation for the "Khokhloma Painting" factory. The organizers invite attendees to view Khokhloma not as an abstract symbol, but as a living relay of personal stories, talent, and character. A central theme of the festival program will be the image of the master, whose hands hold knowledge, patience, and the ability to transform a simple pattern into a tradition. "The 'Golden Khokhloma' festival is an opportunity to touch the living code of Russian culture. The theme of the anniversary year, '110 Years in the Hands of Masters,' is not chosen by chance: behind each element of the painting are the fates and personal mastery of people who pass on the secrets of the craft from generation to generation. We tell the story of Khokhloma through the figure of the master—a hero just like the artist or carver from folk tales, whose strength lies in knowledge and endless patience. I am confident that the venue in Semyonov, which has become the center for celebrating the Day of Folk Arts and Crafts in Russia, will provide guests with a special atmosphere of involvement," said Sergey Yakovlev, Minister of Tourism and Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. He added that thanks to the festival and the national project "Tourism and Hospitality," more and more people are discovering the Nizhny Novgorod Region as the capital of crafts and unique traditions each year. It is worth noting that the "Golden Khokhloma" festival is traditionally timed to coincide with the celebration of the Day of Folk Arts and Crafts, which was established in the country in 2022 by a decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The event will take place across several streets and squares in the city. The main event of the festival, the fair, will be organized in the central festival square. Additionally, the "Khokhloma Painting" factory will host tours, exhibitions, master classes, lectures, and interactive programs. Well-known Russian groups and performers will take the stage. The headliner of the festival will be the Russian musical group "Moya Mishel."
