The cyber police revealed how scammers disguise mass mailings in messengers.
May 16, 2026 08:10 Society Malefactors are increasingly using complex methods of disguise to bypass the security systems of messengers. As reported by 360.ru, citing data from the Cyber Police of Russia, fraudsters use symbols from different alphabets, mix Cyrillic and Latin scripts, add unusual characters, and change the case of the text. These tricks allow them to bypass automatic message filtering and create the appearance of legitimate mailings. The agency emphasizes that such non-standard combinations of symbols and case changes are clear signs of fraudulent activity. Special attention should be paid to the presence of APK or HTML files, suspicious links, or messages with questions like "Is that you in the photo?", which are often used to attract attention and further deceive. The Department for the Organization of Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia urges users to be vigilant and not to open suspicious messages or links, as well as to use reliable antivirus programs to protect their devices. Recall that in the first quarter of 2026, more than 639,000 attempts to redirect users to phishing and fraudulent websites were prevented in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
