      On May 15, 2026, 13:43 Society, 19.9 tons of contaminated Beijing cabbage from Kazakhstan were detected in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the regional office of the Rosselkhoznadzor. During laboratory tests, specialists from the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIZZh" found a quarantine object in the samples - the western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis Pergande). The pest was in a viable state. The western flower thrips is classified as one of the particularly dangerous quarantine organisms and is subject to strict phytosanitary control. This dangerous pest affects hundreds of plant species. It feeds on the sap of leaves and fruits, causing them to deform and lose their marketable appearance, reduces yield, and can carry plant viruses. Thrips reproduce quickly and spread easily, which is why they are under strict quarantine control. Based on the inspection results, the inspectors issued a negative conclusion regarding the quarantine phytosanitary condition of the batch. The import of this product into the territory of the Russian Federation is prohibited. The batch is subject to return to the country of origin or destruction under the supervision of authorized bodies.
