Russians go to the gym more often during hot water outages.
On May 13, 2026, at 20:00 Society During the period of hot water supply shutdown, Russians visit gyms and fitness clubs more frequently. This is due to the fact that such establishments offer the opportunity to take a shower, visit a pool, or a sauna. Trainers note that the hot water supply shutdown can be beneficial for their clients. Some visitors, who come just to wash up, start engaging in sports and become regular clients. Fitness trainer and founder of the Fitlit studio, Sergey Litovchenko, told 360.ru that during the hot water shutdown, gym attendance increases by an average of 10-20%. However, this is not a mass frenzy, but a gradual growth. Litovchenko clarified that the wave of attendance begins approximately in the second or third week after the shutdown. People initially try to cope with the situation at home, but then it becomes inconvenient, and they come to the fitness club for comfort. The increase in clients comes from those who have already trained in the gym before. Some of them resume their workouts and also take the opportunity to shower. Only less than 5% of clients come to the fitness club just for the chance to take a shower. Showers are particularly in demand—about 90% of visitors come for them. Large complexes also have saunas, hammams, and pools, which are also popular, Litovchenko said. During the summer season, fitness clubs offer short-term memberships to meet the increased demand. Fitness clubs prepare in advance for the period of hot water shutdown. They check the boilers' functionality to ensure comfort for clients even in case of an emergency. "We understand that the season has started. There are clients who do not hide this, saying: 'I came to wash up and also to work out.' So the main reason is to wash up, and the bonus is the workout," concluded Litovchenko. Earlier, it became known when hot water would be shut off in Nizhny Novgorod.
