      May 9, 2026 08:11 Society Governor Gleb Nikitin congratulated the residents of the region on Victory Day, emphasizing the special significance of May 9 for all generations and reminding them of the contribution of the residents of Gorky to the Great Patriotic War. In his address, the head of the region noted that this holiday remains sacred for the country, as it was Victory that allowed people to live, create families, and develop. The memory of the war, he said, still resonates with pain in the history of every family.

      "May 9 is a sacred day for all generations because it is this Victory that gave us life—the opportunity to raise children, love, and create," said Gleb Nikitin.

      Gleb Nikitin reminded that 880,000 people from the Gorky region went to the front—every fourth resident. According to him, they participated in key battles, from the defense of the Brest Fortress to the storming of Berlin, and representatives of different nations of the country fought together against fascism.

      The governor also noted the contribution of the home front, where women, elderly people, and teenagers provided the front with equipment and weapons. He emphasized that the enterprises of the region produced T-34 tanks, submarines, and other products, despite the ongoing bombings.

      "For all of us, May 9 will forever remain a day in which the pain of irreparable losses, the memory of fallen soldiers, and the joy of Victory merged," declared the head of the region.

      In conclusion, he expressed gratitude to the veterans, calling their memories living lessons of history.

      "May Victory Day always unite all residents of our great country, from young to old, filling hearts with pride for our glorious past and faith in our great future.
