New warm boxes for animals have appeared at the veterinary hospital "Zooschutz-NN".

      May 8, 2026 17:05 Society The Veterinary Hospital "Zoo Protection-NN," with the support of the Nizhny Novgorod city administration, is improving a new rehabilitation area for dog walking. The work is being carried out at the request of the city mayor Yuri Shalabaev. Additionally, the organization has completed the setup of warm enclosures for the post-operative care of animals.

      The new area is planned to host activities with volunteers and dog handlers aimed at socializing stray animals.

      Alexey Krasnov, the first deputy director of the Department of Urban Improvement of Nizhny Novgorod, noted that the city authorities have been supporting both the hospital and the "Compassion-NN" shelter for several years. According to him, cooperation with the fund includes not only assistance in socializing animals and fostering a culture of responsible treatment but also the implementation of joint social projects. This includes vaccination, sterilization, and emergency treatment of animals. The administration has also subsidized the shelter's expenses for utilities, fire safety, disinfection, and video surveillance for the third year. Since last year, by the decision of Yuri Shalabaev, the fund has been receiving compensation for veterinary assistance costs for animals in dangerous situations. "Veterinary care is very expensive, and thanks to the support of the municipality, animals continue to live," emphasized Alexey Krasnov.

      He added that the city authorities are closely monitoring the development of the fund and the quality of animal care conditions. The number of ownerless animals is gradually decreasing; however, the problem of stray animals remains relevant.

      Recently, as part of the month of urban improvement declared by the city mayor Yuri Shalabaev, employees of the City Ecology Committee of Nizhny Novgorod participated in work on the hospital's territory. They planted trees and shrubs and also tidied up the new dog walking area.

      Elena Tselikina, head of the laboratory at the City Ecology Committee, noted that for a large city like Nizhny Novgorod, organizations that systematically address the issue of stray animals are particularly important. "Such funds help ease tensions between supporters and opponents of animals, making the city safer and more humane. The more such organizations there are in Russia, the better," she said.

      Ilya Kazakov, head of the "Zoo Protection-NN" hospital, reported that in addition to the new area, warm enclosures have been set up for the post-operative care of animals. The floors and wall coverings in the facilities have been replaced, ventilation and heating have been updated, and additional pumps have been installed.

      According to Kazakov, the new boxes are already being used for the care of animals after surgeries. He noted that warm facilities are especially important for stray animals, as they help shorten the rehabilitation period. "The support of the administration is invaluable to us: the city helps pay for utilities, subsidizes emergency veterinary care, and compensates for fire safety expenses," stated Ilya Kazakov.
