More than half of Nizhny Novgorod residents did not support the transfer of the January holidays to May.

May 7, 2026 10:29 Society Most Nizhny Novgorod residents opposed the idea of combining the May holidays by reducing the January holidays. According to a survey by the SuperJob service, 55% of respondents disapproved of such an initiative. The proposal to make the holidays continuous from May 1 to May 9 was previously put forward in the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. The authors of the initiative believe that it is more convenient for Russians to rest, plan trips, and spend time with family in the spring. However, more than half of the surveyed Nizhny Novgorod residents expressed opposition to the changes. Among the arguments were concerns that this could affect income levels, as well as the opinion that winter rest is no less necessary and that the established order should not be changed. Those who supported the initiative noted that the weather in May is more favorable for walks and outdoor recreation. Men are noticeably more supportive of the idea than women: 37% of men expressed support, while among women, only 27% are supporters. By age, the most supporters are among young people under 35 and respondents over 45 years old—33% and 35%, respectively. In the group aged 35 to 45, 28% expressed support. The difference is also noticeable by education level. Among respondents with secondary vocational education, 43% supported the initiative, while among those with higher education, only 29%. Moreover, the higher the income, the more often approval is expressed. Among those earning up to 100,000 rubles per month, 21% supported the idea, while among those earning from 150,000 rubles, the figure is already 43%. Earlier, Nizhny Novgorod residents were informed about how the May holidays would affect wages. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
