A serial arsonist targeting abandoned buildings is being sought in Ilyinogorsk.

      On May 4, 2026, at 15:10, Incidents In the village of Ilyinogorsk in the Nizhny Novgorod region, a person involved in a series of arson attacks on abandoned buildings is being sought. According to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, from April 30 to May 3, four fires occurred in the settlement— all at abandoned sites located close to each other. Preliminary data suggests that the cause of each incident was arson. This refers to the intentional damage or destruction of property. There are no fatalities or injuries. Currently, emergency service personnel are working with the police to identify the suspected arsonist. Necessary checks and operational measures are being conducted.

      In the event of an arrest and confirmation of guilt, actions may be classified under part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Intentional destruction of someone else's property committed out of hooligan motives by means of arson." The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for up to five years.
