Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region unanimously adopted the law on supporting compatriots abroad in two readings. The initiator of the document's development was the Ministry of International and Interregional Relations of the region, the press service of the regional government reports. The law aims to strengthen the region's ties with the Russian-speaking diaspora around the world and create a foundation for their support. Its main areas cover education, culture, and the preservation of the Russian language. In addition, the document delineates the powers of government bodies and grants municipalities the right to participate in this work. Minister of International and Interregional Relations Olga Guseva noted that the adoption of the law will allow for more effective interaction with compatriots worldwide, providing them with the necessary assistance. According to her, this is about creating a systematic mechanism that will not only strengthen the diaspora's connection with their historical homeland but also help transmit Russian culture and language abroad. "They become a kind of ambassadors of Russian culture, our people's diplomats, who strengthen Russia's position on the international stage, which is a strategic priority repeatedly emphasized by the country's leadership. Our task is to assist this noble mission in every possible way," added Olga Guseva. Work in this direction is already underway. In particular, to improve the level of Russian language teaching abroad, Rossotrudnichestvo, together with the regional government and Nizhny Novgorod universities, has twice conducted advanced training courses for Russian language teachers in the region. Over this time, 57 teachers from 11 countries near and far abroad have participated. Compatriots are also actively involved in projects launched by the regional government. In 2023, schoolchildren from Egypt, producing the film magazine "Mandarin" in Russian, won a competition for best practices in the field of people's diplomacy. In 2025, compatriots from Turkey and Moldova became the best in the drawing competition "Nizhny in Colors." According to the ministry, over the past eight years, 785 events have been held in the region to support compatriots in the fields of culture, tourism, education, sports, and youth policy. They have covered people from 98 countries, including Algeria, Belarus, Brazil, China, Malaysia, and many others. Angelica YUDICHEVA
