On April 30, 2026, at 16:30, Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the regional stage of the All-Russian competition among teachers of secondary vocational education institutions "Master of the Year - 2026" has concluded. The competition brought together 457 educators from 64 colleges and technical schools in the region. Over several months, they showcased their professional skills and original methodological developments during various trials. The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region in collaboration with the Regional Center for Advanced Vocational Training as part of the implementation of the national project "Youth and Children." "Professional competitions are not only a tool for enhancing the prestige of the teaching profession but also for the development of the entire education sector. The 'Master of the Year' competition encourages college and technical school teachers to improve their skills, try new approaches, and share best practices. For some, the competition can serve as an impetus for career growth," reminded the Minister of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Mikhail Puchkov. According to him, despite the high workload and busy schedules of secondary vocational education teachers, the competition traditionally enjoys high popularity among them. From December 2025 to March 2026, participants in the competition presented their achievements in the professional field in a distance format. After the first qualifying round, 147 participants were admitted to the next stage. They presented their video introductions in the format "I am a master" and a video recording of a lesson. The second task allowed participants to discuss their teaching practices and share their original methodologies. Nine of the strongest teachers reached the regional final. The competition trials for them took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Governor's College. The first task was to conduct a master class for a previously unfamiliar group of students. The jury assessed the teacher's ability to engage the audience in a short time, determine the starting level of understanding of the topic, and set participants up for collaborative work over 45 minutes. It was important to demonstrate methodological competence, logical structuring of the lesson, the ability to involve students in active work, depth of subject mastery, creativity, and originality in presenting the material. Immediately after the master class, each contestant conducted a self-analysis of their own lesson. Participants evaluated how well they achieved their set goals, which methods worked effectively, and what could be improved. The third and final trial was an interview with the participant. The jury asked teachers questions about the results of the master class as well as their professional activities in general. The winners of the regional competition were determined in three nominations. The best master of vocational training in secondary vocational education institutions and "Master of the Year" was recognized as Sergey Khamraev, a teacher at the Borsky Governor's College. "Winning for me is just the beginning of the competitive journey. I have always dreamed of participating in such a competition, and I tried not to let down my college and my students, as they were very supportive of me. After winning at the regional level, I have even more preparation ahead for the main competition. I hope to win!" shared Sergey Khamraev. In the nomination "Teacher of Disciplines and Professional Modules," the best was Alexey Grishchenko from the Perevoz Construction College. In the nomination "Teacher of General Education Cycle," the leader was recognized as Nikolai Kalachev, a teacher at the Dzerzhinsk Pedagogical College. "My colleagues recommended that I participate in the 'Master of the Year' competition. After reaching the finals of the competition in the Nizhny Novgorod region, I became more confident in myself. The competition allowed me to share experiences with colleagues and students from different colleges. I hope to continue developing and enhancing this experience," noted Nikolai Kalachev.
