      April 29, 2026 16:56 Politics The Chairman of the Permanent Commission of the City Duma for the Development of Road Infrastructure and Transport, Stanislav Prokopovich, commented on the personnel changes in the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to him, the decision to appoint Leonid Samukhin as Minister of Transport is a balanced and timely one.

      “The appointment of Leonid Samukhin as Minister of Transport—a person who knows this field from the inside, genuinely cares about his work, and is ready to work for the benefit of the people—is, in my opinion, a successful personnel decision. Especially considering that we are currently participants in serious changes in public transport services,” Prokopovich noted.

      He emphasized that the formation of a new route network for the Nizhny Novgorod agglomeration is ongoing in the region. This work allows for the synchronization of different types of public transport, improving service standards amid growing passenger traffic, and taking into account integration processes, as well as the development of municipalities, including “Greater Nizhny” in its new boundaries.

      “Among the many titles of our city is the status of the birthplace of the Russian tram. The comprehensive modernization of the tram network is not just a tribute to historical justice, but a large-scale project that gives a second life to the Nizhny Novgorod tram and harmoniously integrates it into the overall route network,” said the deputy.

      This involves the reconstruction of nearly 150 kilometers of tracks, the updating of 15 traction substations, and the replacement of almost two hundred trams. According to the deputy, positive changes are already being recorded in the profile commission of the Duma, including a reduction in noise and vibration load, which is especially important for the central part of the city with historical buildings. Prokopovich emphasized that such large-scale work, carried out by a large team led by the regional government, affects the interests of a significant number of residents.

      “I am confident that the new Minister of Transport will be able to build this work taking into account the needs of both road users and all subjects of the transport and road complex,” he concluded.
