      "The best is the enemy of the good," says classic literature. Our hero fully realized this when he became the cause of a fire amounting to 40 million rubles. A curious incident occurred at one of the vehicle and special equipment conversion facilities in Nizhny Novgorod when an employee of the company got hold of an ordinary lighter. While the man was in the cabin of a brand new minibus for transporting people with limited mobility, he decided to melt the frayed edges of the strap on the special chair. The polymer material eagerly responded to the fire: melted and burning particles landed on the chair. The employee did not see how events unfolded next because he left the minibus. The man had no idea what consequences his "improvements" would lead to.

      From the investigation materials: "At some point, the melted polymer material of the strap practically stopped burning," says investigator Ekaterina Potapova from the Department of Administrative Practice and Investigation of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region. "But its energy was still enough to ignite the polymer materials of the chair seat. And about a minute after the fire had almost completely ceased, it resumed with new intensity." The fire engulfed the minibus cabin. Only then did the unfortunate employee see the scale of what had happened from the second floor of the hangar. Meanwhile, the flames spread to the walls and engulfed nearby vehicles. Firefighters had to intervene.

      "As a result of the criminal negligence of the employee in the administrative building hangar," the fire caused damage to "vehicles, equipment, and structural elements" of the premises. Six units of special equipment never reached their customers. The consolation in this story is the fact that there were no casualties or injuries during the fire. While the culprit is compensating for the damage – he has already paid 11 million rubles to date – he has time to reflect on adhering to basic fire safety rules.
