      A 59-year-old resident of the Ivanovo region reported to police department No. 5 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Nizhny Novgorod about the theft of a large sum of money. The man received calls from unknown individuals who claimed to be bank employees and law enforcement officials. The callers informed him that criminals were attempting to steal his funds and also to take out loans in his name. To "secure himself," the man withdrew 4,990,000 rubles from his bank account, wrapped the money in two bags, and handed it over to an unknown person on Pochainskaya Street who uttered a code word. A criminal case has been initiated based on the signs of a crime as stipulated in part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). The police are conducting necessary investigative and operational measures aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident. The Nizhny Novgorod police urge citizens to be vigilant when receiving calls from unknown numbers and remind them of the main signs of fraud: Remember, no official organization uses couriers to transport cash. Also, any financial transactions should not be carried out under the dictation of third parties. Offers for "declaring" money, placing it in "safe" accounts, using bank safes, or alarming statements about alleged involvement in financing illegal activities. The police recommend immediately ending the conversation when discussing matters related to your financial situation. Stay vigilant and do not fall for the tricks of fraudsters – all of this is false pretenses to make you obey the scammers.
