Details were revealed at a meeting of the state power committee in the ZSNO by the human rights commissioner in the region, Oksana Kislytsyna, reports "Kommersant-Volga".
Recall that Denis Yeletin was the senior assistant to the captain on a civilian ship under the Liberian flag; he was detained in the port of Odessa in July 2022. After the start of the special military operation, the Nizhny Novgorod resident, who turned out to be the only Russian citizen on board, was sentenced to prison for allegedly infringing on the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
He spent three years in captivity. Throughout this time, the human rights commissioner in Russia, Tatyana Moskalkova, Oksana Kislytsyna, as well as representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Defense worked on the man's release.
Since returning home, Denis Yeletin has managed to undergo rehabilitation, return to the fleet, and go on a voyage. Oksana Kislytsyna also noted that the Ukrainian lawyer representing the interests of the Nizhny Novgorod resident was detained by the TCK employees and sent to the front line.
