      April 24, 2026 19:13 Society Nizhny Novgorod resident Svetlana Mashkova has been unable to obtain custody of her 2-year-old granddaughter for a whole year. The child was taken to another city and placed in a new family while her mother serves a sentence in a penal colony, and her father is in a combat zone. At the request of "KP-Nizhny Novgorod," the situation was commented on by the regional Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy. The agency stated that the grandmother on the father's side had applied for custody, but she was denied due to the lack of documents confirming her kinship. In the near future, employees of the guardianship authority will visit the grandmother to prepare an inspection report of the living space and assist in gathering the necessary documents for custody, the relevant ministry clarified.
