Nizhny Novgorod residents were explained how to quickly check the safety of their home Wi-Fi.

      On April 23, 2026, at 19:19, Society Cyberpolice of Russia recommended regularly performing several important actions to protect home networks from hackers, reports 360.ru.

      Experts advise starting with setting a complex password for Wi-Fi access. The standard password often used for routers (for example, admin/admin) is easy to crack, so it needs to be replaced.

      It is also important to change the router's admin login and password so that intruders cannot access the device's settings. In the router settings, it is recommended to enable modern encryption, such as WPA2-PSK (AES) or WPA3. This will help protect the data transmitted over the network.

      For additional security, it is advisable to create a separate guest network. It should have a unique name and password to limit access to the main network. The guest network can be used for connecting temporary users and smart devices that do not have permanent access to the main resources.

      Additionally, it is important to regularly check the list of devices connected to the network. If you discover unfamiliar devices, it may indicate an attempt at unauthorized access. In such a case, it is recommended to immediately change the Wi-Fi password.

      The agency emphasizes that regularly checking connected devices is an important habit for ensuring the security of the home network.
