Nizhny Novgorod Marathon "We are for a Healthy Lifestyle!" recognized as the best social project

      On April 20, 2026, at 20:23, Society The Nizhny Novgorod Marathon "We are for a Healthy Lifestyle!" was recognized as the best social project in the field of disease prevention and healthy lifestyle at the federal level. The initiative was presented at the All-Russian competition of educational projects "Light of Prevention - 2025". A total of over 150 projects from various regions of the country competed for victory in 11 nominations.

      The award ceremony for the winners and laureates of the competition took place on April 20 in Moscow during the XXXIII Russian National Congress "Man and Medicine". The Nizhny Novgorod delegation included, among others, the Deputy Minister of Health of the region, Tatiana Kovalenko, and the Chief Physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention, Natalia Savitskaya. The award was presented to the Nizhny Novgorod representatives by the Deputy Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Inna Svyatenko.

      As Tatiana Kovalenko reminded, the regional marathon "We are for a Healthy Lifestyle!" was held in accordance with the goals and objectives of the national project "Sustained and Active Life". Over the past year, the marathon reached 20 of the largest settlements in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Mass health and educational events brought together approximately 23,000 residents in total.

      "The global goal of our project is effective promotion of a healthy lifestyle, increasing citizens' adherence to its simple principles. During the marathon, preventive examinations and screenings were conducted for all interested parties, consultations with specialized doctors were available, and participants could join useful lectures and seminars on health, showcase their skills in master classes and sports competitions," the deputy minister said.

      Natalia Savitskaya noted that citizens of all ages participated in the marathon events, often as entire families.

      "Winning the 'Light of Prevention' competition is recognition of the importance of our systematic educational work on disease prevention and promoting a healthy lifestyle. We plan to scale up the marathon and involve even more residents of the region. The main thing is that our efforts yield real results: every year, more and more people are giving up bad habits, starting to adhere to healthy eating, getting involved in sports, and seeking medical advice for preventive purposes," she explained.

      The national project "Sustained and Active Life" has been implemented in the country since 2025 by the order of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. It aims to increase life expectancy by 2030 and involves the renovation of clinics, outpatient facilities, and midwifery stations, attracting qualified medical personnel to healthcare institutions, applying new approaches in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic diseases, improving emergency medical care and rehabilitation systems, developing a network of national research centers, and digitizing the industry. The national project includes 11 federal projects: "Health for Everyone," "Modernization of Primary Healthcare," "Medical Personnel," "Fighting Cardiovascular Diseases," "Fighting Cancer," "Fighting Diabetes," "Fighting Hepatitis and Minimizing Disease Spread Risks," "Improving Emergency Medical Assistance," "Developing Federal Medical Organizations, including the Development of a Network of National Research Centers," "National Platform 'Health'," "Optimal Medical Rehabilitation for Health Recovery."
