Crime in the Nizhny Novgorod region has decreased by 19.2%.

      On April 20, 2026, at 19:01 Society A noticeable decrease in the total number of registered crimes was recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod region in the first quarter of 2026. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region. A total of 7,142 crimes were registered over three months, which is 19.2% less compared to the same period last year. The number of cases for which preliminary investigation is mandatory decreased by 23.2% — from 5,356 to 4,114. The number of crimes for which an investigation is not mandatory decreased by 13.0% — from 3,481 to 3,028. The number of crimes against the person also decreased. They were registered at 963, which is 10.5% less than the previous year. In particular, the number of murders decreased by 35.8% — from 53 to 34 cases. The number of serious bodily harm cases decreased by 20.7% — from 82 to 65. The number of cases of minor bodily harm decreased by 34.3% — from 140 to 92. The number of beatings also decreased by 61.9% — from 21 to 8. The number of registered rapes decreased by 48% — from 25 to 13. More than half of all crimes in the region are property offenses — their share reaches 53.3%. At the same time, the total number of such crimes decreased by 18.8% — from 4,691 to 3,809. The number of thefts decreased by 11.5% — from 2,081 to 1,841 cases. The number of robberies decreased by 25.6% — from 86 to 64. The number of fraud cases decreased by 24.9% — from 2,169 to 1,630. In addition, the number of apartment burglaries decreased by 38.6%. Eight vehicle thefts were registered compared to 17 a year earlier, which means a decrease of 52.9%. At the same time, an increase in the number of robberies was recorded. Their number increased to 9, which is 80% more compared to the same period last year.
