Expectations for an increase in tourist flow
According to preliminary forecasts from the Ministry of Economic Development, an increase in tourist flow of 4% is expected in the summer of 2026, reaching 48 million people. The number of foreign tourists in Russia for the season may reach 6.5 million. Due to the closure of airspace in the Middle East, these figures may be adjusted, noted the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov.
It is expected that the demand for summer vacation bookings among Russians will start to grow actively in April-May, as travelers now book trips 1.5–2 months in advance. Reshetnikov emphasized the importance of a sound pricing strategy that will ensure competitiveness and attract Russian consumers. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko urged governors to support domestic tourism.
Popular destinations
The south remains the most sought-after destination. In the Trans-Baikal region, demand has doubled, in Novosibirsk region — increased by 1.8 times, and in Kirov region — by 1.5 times. The Republic of Crimea showed a 30% increase, and Krasnodar Krai — 22%.
The most expensive foreign countries for vacations
RST noted that the most expensive foreign destinations for Russians are countries in Latin America, islands in the Indian Ocean, Monaco, and Belgium.
Pavel Belov, director of the payment service "Pay Around the World," confirmed that the highest spending is recorded among travelers in Monaco. The average transaction amount is 161 dollars. The top 5 most expensive destinations also include Belgium, the Maldives, the Seychelles, and the USA.
According to Belov, Fiji has become the absolute record holder for the average check — 423 dollars. However, due to the small number of tourists visiting this country, this figure is not included in the statistics.
Main expense items
The main expenses of Russian tourists are on accommodation, restaurants, supermarkets, and clothing. Through the "Pay Around the World" service, the highest spending since August 2025 has been registered in the UAE, Turkey, Thailand, the USA, and Indonesia.
An expert reported that in 2026 there was a sharp surge in interest in entertainment, personal care, and active recreation. Among categories with significant turnover, the largest increase was shown by theater ticket sales and entertainment shows — spending grew by 172.5%.
Despite the overall increase in expenses, tourists have started to save on medical services. Spending on medical care and health-related procedures has decreased by almost half — by 45.3%.
