The Nizhny Novgorod TV tower will host a light show for Cosmonautics Day.

April 12, 2026 09:31 Society On Cosmonautics Day, April 12, the Nizhny Novgorod TV tower will turn on a special architectural and artistic illumination dedicated to one of the leading domestic specialists in the field of radio astronomy, applied radio physics, and radio engineering, Vsevolod Troitsky. This was reported by the press service of the RTRS branch.

This is already the second release of the "light series" within the project "On the Wave of Discoveries" (0+), which tells about outstanding scientists of NNSU named after N.I. Lobachevsky. The project is timed to the 110th anniversary of the university and the 25th anniversary of RTRS. The illumination will operate from 19:30 to 23:45 Moscow time.

The edges of the TV tower will be adorned with an image of the Moon and a light ornament stylized after the craters on its surface. The theme is not chosen by chance: it was in the field of radio astronomy that Vsevolod Troitsky defended the first dissertation in the country. His research on the radio emission of the Moon and the properties of its upper layer, conducted at Gorky State University and NIRFI, formed the basis for the development of self-propelled chassis for the "Lunokhod" series of devices, radio telescopes, and the first domestic radiometers, which found wide application, including in medical diagnostics.

The light scenario will be complemented by information on the media facade of the TV tower: viewers will see the project title "On the Wave of Discoveries" and a scrolling line mentioning the scientist as a pioneer of radio astronomy and a researcher of the Moon's surface.

NNSU Rector Oleg Trofimov noted that Vsevolod Troitsky was an outstanding scientist whose work laid the foundation for the development of domestic experimental radio astronomy. "Under his guidance, 25 candidate dissertations were defended, and a number of his students became doctors of science and gained recognition both in Russia and abroad," he emphasized.

Additional information about Troitsky's biography and scientific achievements can be found in publications of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Information Center dedicated to the heroes of the project "On the Wave of Discoveries."

The director of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of RTRS, Vyacheslav Ulyashchenko, in turn, noted that the contribution of Nizhny Novgorod scientists to the exploration of space is hard to overestimate. "After all, space research has not only expanded our understanding of the universe but has also become a driver for the development of many industries, including communications and telecommunications," he said.

By the end of the year, the project "On the Wave of Discoveries" will introduce the residents of the region to outstanding scientists of NNSU whose achievements have influenced the development of radio electronics, cybernetics, history, linguistics, and chemistry. Thematic light shows are planned to be held approximately once a month — on days significant for the scientific community and professional holidays. The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
