The Nizhny Novgorod accountant embezzled millions from the company and spent them on gambling.

      On April 10, 2026, at 15:32, Incidents In Nizhny Novgorod, the investigation into a criminal case of embezzlement of more than 9.6 million rubles has been completed. A 41-year-old accountant from the regional branch of a telecommunications company will stand trial. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      The woman used her official access to accounts and accounting systems for personal purposes for two years — from May 2023 to March 2025. She canceled charges on the accounts of companies that had already terminated their contracts for communication services. At the same time, both receivables and payables were artificially created in the accounting system.

      After that, the accused issued fictitious refunds and prepared documents for transferring money to a bank account opened in her father's name. According to her, the illegally obtained money was used for gambling bets.

      The total amount of damage exceeded 9.6 million rubles. The accused admitted her guilt and partially compensated for the damage — 3.3 million rubles.

      The investigation into the criminal case initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement in a particularly large amount) has been completed, and the materials have been sent to court. The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of up to 10 years of imprisonment.
