Nizhny Novgorod residents were explained which coins will be accepted during the "Coin Week."

April 10, 2026 14:00 Economy Foreign coins cannot be exchanged as part of the "Coin Week" campaign. This was reported to the IA "NTA-Privolzhye" by the press service of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia. The campaign runs from April 6 to April 18. During this period, only Russian coins of any denomination that are in circulation are accepted. Accumulated change can be exchanged for paper money at banks and stores participating in the campaign. The "Coin Week" has been held across the country since 2023. During this time, Russians have returned over 215 million coins worth nearly 956 million rubles into circulation. Under normal conditions, banks may charge a commission of up to 3% of the amount for such exchanges. It is also possible to get rid of change without the campaign— for example, simply by paying with it in a store. Sellers are required to accept money of any denomination, including coins of 1, 10, and 50 kopecks. In case of refusal, one can file a complaint with Rospotrebnadzor. Coins can also be credited to an account or deposit for free— banks are required to accept them without a commission. In case of refusal, citizens have the right to complain to the Bank of Russia. Foreign coins cannot be used within the country— they cannot be used for payments in stores, and banks do not accept metal euros and dollars for exchange or crediting. In this case, specialists advise keeping them until traveling abroad, spending them at the airport, giving them to acquaintances who are numismatists, or giving them to those who are going on a trip.
