A Nizhny Novgorod resident was sentenced to 17 years for treason and preparing to set fire to a communication tower.
On April 10, 2026, 14:57, Incidents: Nizhny Novgorod resident Alexey Ivankov was sentenced to 17 years for working with the Ukrainian special services. This was reported by the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court.
The court established that in the spring of 2025, Ivankov, adhering to pro-Ukrainian views, entered into correspondence with representatives of the Ukrainian special services for ideological and selfish reasons. At their request, he photographed six cellular base stations in the territory of the Lyskovsky municipal district, for which he was paid 1,500 rubles.
Later, he was tasked with setting fire to one of the towers for a reward. Ivankov chose a base station but did not manage to complete the task - he was detained by law enforcement officers.
During the court session, the defendant fully admitted his guilt. He refused to testify but confirmed the circumstances outlined in the indictment.
The court found Ivankov guilty under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, Part 1 of Article 30 (Treason), Paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for arson aimed at damaging communication facilities, by a group of persons by prior agreement, for the purpose of undermining the economic security and defense capability of the Russian Federation) and Part 1 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (legalization of funds obtained as a result of committing treason).
For the totality of crimes, he was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment: the first three years he will spend in prison, the remaining term - in a strict regime correctional colony. He was also sentenced to 1 year and 6 months of restriction of freedom and a fine of 50,000 rubles.
Until the sentence comes into legal force, Ivankov will remain in custody.
It was previously reported that two Nizhny Novgorod teenagers were convicted for a terrorist act at cellular communication facilities in May 2025.
